A Painters Journey
The Dynamite Church

My second painting of the day in Jerome, this elegant home perched high on the side of the mountain, was formerly a church . The story is that the Mexican mineworkers were not allowed to worship in the Catholic Church where the white mineworkers and townspeople worshipped so they used scrapped dynamite boxes and built their own! I was attracted to the mediterranean feel of the structure which I suppose was enhanced by the cedars.
